Seems like I missed February completly...whoops. Its overated anyway. These days with everyone- mostly college students- having a laptop and ableton theres more then enough mashups. Its rare to come across a complete work that makes you double take. That is what the White Panda and Milkman have done with their latest albums. These guys are cool in that theyve become relativly well established, there work has improved to what can only be described as greatness over the years since they started some 3 years ago. Pandamonium gets ridiculous towards the end, a very creative string of climatic bangers, the ending being particularly impressive: a sample of Coldplay's "Fix You" and 3 Kingz by Slim Thug. Milkman's Algorithms is equally impressive, a quick rotation of songs including, Justin Bieber- -nice. his first production- Breaking Free (below) is a nice touch, a house mix with vocals reminiscent of something Tiesto would drop

So its been one year since PipingHotCalzone was launched. What started as a blog created out of boredom has become a hobby. Over the year the blog has joined a number of agreggators and started gaining a granted small following. Thanks to the fans, heres to more blogging!

If you haven't gotten a hold of the BBC essential mix feauturing Avicii, get it now. By far one of the best Essential Mixes (which has some big names like Swedish House Mafia and Laidback luke). Avicii aka Tim Berg is a Swedish producer turned DJ who had the break through this year with "Bromance". The influence of Steve Angelo can be heard is the songs dropped in this post, that sort of mellow electronic feel evident in Swedish House Mafia. Plus, who doesn't like a good house bootleg of Sweet Dreams. For kicks is Don't Stop by Kid Sister, a club banger for sure from Fools Gold Vol 1.

We all know about the hype around Kanye's new album. The entire 30 minute music video is epic and it deserved the 10/10 on pitchfork no doubt after giving it a good listen through. Wonderful work in light of his last album which left much to be desired. While Dark Fantasy, and Power are all over hypem, See Me Now has gotten little coverage. Its a hidden beauty on the list and taps into that gospel vibe that was strong in College Dropout. Reminds me a bit of a John Legend Track. Only available in the Deluxe Edition

EDM has been taking over the scene lately. With the explosion of Guetta in the US and all the collabs with the likes of LMFAO and Chuckie, the electro sound is becoming more and more common place. Black Eyed Peas have def. been at the frontline of this crossover between electro-house and mainstream. Its not a surprise that the Black Eyed Peas latest release Dirty Bit doesn't hide the EDM influence. Alot of their past songs have had some subtle EDM but this one is just... blunt. This is awesome. This early edit is impressive, but keeps true to this fresh original.

There are two DJs that strike a good balance between dropping good tracks, being funky but being down to earth: Skeet Skeet and Sammy Bananas. Sammy Bananas part of Fools Gold is the DJ behind Telephoned which I blogged about a long time ago. I've been looking for this track since seeing it on clip of his live show. I've heard some weird mashup albums before...but this one is something totally different. As I've posted before, Lil Wayne proves to be the most mashup-able rapper around, his lyrics can be thrown into anything. Well, apparently Indie music and then likes of Simon and Garfunkel are fair game. Described as "not a mashup album, this is an album about Lil Wayne", 500 days of weezy integrates songs and sound samples from 500 Days of Summer as the backdrop to Lil Waynes Lyrics. Works really well, and does, in some ways sound more like a rap-ballad then anything else. I'm a fan of "Fear Forever".

Here it is, a dubstep/dutch house artist that ISNT afrojack! Belgium based, his mixes are often mislabled as Afrojack infact, make it hard to get a hold of some of his work. Staying true to the genre of Dutch House there is some sharp electronic synth usage, with heavy beats synced with chopped, and cut sound snippets. Interestingly, Pope of Dope is done originally by Party Harders/The Subs while I Love London, which was a big hit a couple months back is a remix of Crystal Fighters...HighBloos twist on these sounds significantly different then the originals. I'm a big fan of Pope of Dope at the 1:30 mark.

Afrojack (w Party Squad) : A MSTERDAMN + Senta: French Fries (Original Mix)

Note to self: step up the blogging game. I recently acquired a handful of Afrojack, Laidback Luke and Rusko tracks, which only pushed me to find some really sweet electronic artists involved in the same scene. I'll post on them in the coming days. But heres some sweet stuff here- French Fries Senta (Original Mix ) has that heavy base line, with a good touch of House Dutch. The distinctive chopping and repeating of short vocal samples behind a base doesnt get old in French Fries and think about the transitions possible! Afrojack needs no introduction, but in a MSTRDAMN it is obvious where Party Squad comes in. The heavy dubstep doesnt hit until the middle of the song, and the buildup is glorious- a light piano rhytm melody that is super catchy.

Yup, I gave in. I'm posting about Uffie. Uffie for sure, from what I can tell on other blogs, is a polarizing music figure. Well known for her popish-electro-trashy-girly-goparty voice and attitude, shes def a big hit in the clubs. Paris based (though she used to live in Hong Kong and Florida), its no surprise she collabs and performs with the likes of Daft Punk and SebastiAn. Part of EdBanger Records, her work lines up well with any french-euro club. Who can forget that shes the foundation for Daft Punks "The Party" ( that song is nothing without her!). Like Ke$ha, people call her out for her superficial lyrics and alot of people hate. Nevertheless, you've got to admit, her synthed voiced can be contagious.

Apologies for the week long hiatus in blogging. We've been resorting some of the past posts and accommodating artist requests. Nevertheless, expect more frequent posts from @ now. A quick update to start of the week- found this gem land in my inbox. Mochi Beats already seems to have crawled its way up some popular music aggregation. Its hard to really describe this artist, as I am having trouble putting a face to the artists.

After posting all these mashup/remix artists over the past months I've come to realize that its difficult to generalize or compare these artists. Yes they often sample the same songs, and yes many of them are part of the same college-young adult age population. These days it seems that any remix artist is compared to Girl Talk (are they better? worse? same beats? as creative etcetc). But who is to say that Girl Talk is the gold standard of remix/mashup music?

Mochi Beats emphasizes short, succinct mashups (under 3 minutes) comprised of constantly shifting back beats and seamless interchange of pop-songs. Super entertaining.

In light of the recent hype and interest about Rusko and Sleigh Bells, I thought it would be nice to bring something I dug up from a couple years (2007) back. From his album- Dirty South Dance in which he mashes savvy european techno beats with the likes of Lil Jon and T.I (this is pre-Gucci Mane and Lil Wayne). The story of A-trak himself is intriguing, having won a prestigious DMC DJ competition at the young age at 15. We've all heard Loonies to Blow and at this point Trizzy Turnt Up, so its nice to have a taste of what he made in 07 to compare with his forthcoming Dirty Soth Dance Vol. II. The king of dubstep Rusko has just released his first feature album, entitled ironically O.M.G. While reminiscent of eurotrash Basshunter, Rusko reworks conventional dubstep and offers more of a mellow take on the genre. Still true to his roots, his new album has hooks aplenty, and wobble to the extreme. Rusko takes a step in the right direction here by playing off of current superstars, from the Crookers to Rod Azlan, Rusko brings talent to back up his sick beats. His best track might be Got Da Groove, featuring Gucci Mane. While still Jail, Gucci Mane still has the swagger to rap on tracks and make hits. Bringing it to you before the hype: Rusko (feat. DJ Sammy Bananas and singer Maggie Horn team up to create Telephoned. The two joined after recording a techno-disco trance interpretation of T-Pain's "I can't believe it". Best known for their dubstep interpretation of Turn My Swag on, the two are far more then just cover artists. Having seen them open for Jason Derulo a couple weeks back, they certainty know how to get a crowd excited. I was particularly surprised by Million Dollar Baby, which spins Major Lazers "Keep It Goin Louder".

When I heard Marina and The Diamonds "I Am Not a Robot", I was tempted to immediately blog about her. She has a very distinct voice and style of music. A little bit of Ellie Goulding...a little bit of Lily Allen and a little bit of Florence and the Machine. Shes been described by The Guardian as an "indie artist with pop motives". Despite her pop motives and the fact that shes been influenced by B. Spears, her music is very unique.

But I held out, and promised myself I wouldn't post about her (or at least another remix) until I found one that blew my mind. Found it. Clock Operas take on her song is the kind of thing that brings back memories. Its the kind of song you just turn up while driving on a highway...you get the point. Obsessions (really neat video) is from her first album "The Family Jewels".

Born and raised in Lyon, Franceand currently mixing in Buenos Aires Douster has been releasing a number of official and unofficial remixes. Dont be suprised if you catch some of Dousters mixes in the mixtape or a set. His stuff is a little old-school (go figure that he was influenced by dancehall music and the high powered dub soundsystem) but also wordly. Check out his take on the Lion King song (impressive video) and the catchy I'll get you.

From reggae soundsystems to south american clubs, douster always had the sense to entertain crowd, following the old tradition of Hip Hop Dj's. His dj sets combined a wide range of bass music, mixing top notch fidget house, world ghetto music, and classic rave hits.

Back in December I posted about Norwegian Recycling. He is def not outputting nearly as many songs as he used to, but its nice to see that he continues to release new stuff every once in a while. Heres his latest mix of two very similar songs. The simplest remixes are almost always the best ones. Its actually more a medley then a mashup, but is for sure very enjoyable.

VV Brown or Vanessa Brown is a UK artist. Reminescent of artists like Lily Allen, Shark in the Water was released LAST summer. Nevertheless what could have been a big summer hit, flopped because of a lack of publicity (at least in the US). Talk about underrated! This by far is one of my favorite remixes of the song. Shark in the water for sure will re-emerge.

What is a Delorean? Its a type of sports car. Apparently its also a spanish alternative dance-electronic group. If you listen to their stuff from there album Subiza, it reminds you a bit of Animal Collective. This kind of music is def looking like what daft punk was a couple years back. Fake Blood has made a number of remixes off popular indie electronic artists. But really, who is Fake Blood? Took me a little bit to find out exactly who he is. Miike Snow, a swedish trio consisting of Andrew Wyatt, Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg have been around for awhile.

Fake Blood is an alias used by DJ Touché, also half of The Black Ghosts (which Touché has remixed under the Fake Blood alias). I saw LA hip hop artist Murs a year ago having no idea who this guy was. The man can throw a good concert and his music-beats, raps, everything- are unique. You know a guy is good when their practically just speaking sentences, but the rhymes match up magically with the beats. Starting with a debut album in 1993, followed by 3:16 in 2004, hes always been primarily involved in the indie hip hop artists scene. His latest release Murs for President was his transition into the mainstream hip hop realm, while still staying in line with his work. As an extra, heres J. Something a little different. Hilltop Hoods has been the center of Australias hip hop scene since they formed back in the early 90's. When you think about the past french artists who have hit it big in regards to the pop/electronic/indie scene in the US one thinks of Justice and Yelle. Coeur De Pirae is no different and the latest batches of remixes have helped her popularity in the states. I'm in no position to really comment on the music, besides the fact that it sounds awesome. Heres some basic info about this artist:

Cœur de Pirate is 20 year old Béatrice Martin who has played the piano from the age of three. In March 2007, after five years of music education, she started composing her own songs. Members of Bonjour Brumaire noticed her and asked her to join their group as singer and keyboardist. This spring Béatrice left the group to concentrate on Cœur de Pirate, her solo project. Wale and Kid Cudi. Two of the most big time hip hop sensations right now. Its amazing that maybe a year or so go they were relatively unknown. Im sure that Chillin' and Day n Nite helped them gain their fame, but at the core of the matter, there rise is rooted from the different nature of their music in comparison to say Kanye. Its great to fine gems, albiet remixes, that arn't all over the web/media.

Bittersweet symphony has been remixed a number of times, so its not surprising to see Wale pick up on that. The violin section lends it self to be the template of alot of remixes.

Band of Horse's "The Funeral" seems to be following the same route in regards to remixes. Artists are just picking up on it (aka Band of Tomatoes RMX). The fact that its a mellow, slow song makes it somewhat similar to Bittersweet Symphony. A good kickback to Kid Cudi's starting mixtape.

I had no idea who these guys were until a friend dropped me one of their remixes. Go figure, the Generic People DJ's are a group of unsigned DJs from Ireland, but they have some great stuff downloadable for free on their myspace. Here's the deal:

Generic People' is a collaboration between 'Antnoize' & 'Tantric Dex' who perform with a duel laptop set up synced together incorporating various pieces of hardware and controlers ,a batch of Vst's, sound effects, loops, re-edits, remixes & original productions.The duo have over 20 years DJing experience between them, and through their shared passion for all forms of music and blatant disregard for generes have fused their idea on how to rock a dancefloor resulting in the birth of the GENERIC PEOPLE DJS. The versatility is definitely there. Alot of the times you hear DANCE remixes where the song is just chopped/screwed or slowed down/sped up but their interpretation shows some true ingenuity, the kind of thing you would go wild for at a live show. The Train in Vain is genius, there needs to be more old school pop punk based electronic mashups. Enjoy!

I've always been a fan of Brother Ali. In fact, I think hes one of the most underrated hip hop artists out there. This is likely because his stuff isn't mainstream. He makes an effort to keep his work underground. An albino rapper, his work is inspirational, and his raps are haunting. Forest Whitaker was the first of his beats i've ever heard, and I can only image what it would be like to see him live. Good pick me ups.

No doubt that this collaboration between Katy Perry and Timbaland is going to become the next "I Got a Feeling". It wont be long until this is the kind of song thats played so often that its sung by the entire crowd every time its played (its def got that feel to it). Nevertheless, its great stuff. Really shows that Katy Perry can mash well with alot of genres. If anything, the beauty of remixes like this (this one cook digital dog) is that it not only extends the song, but really makes the song fresh.

If you mix Passion Pit, Daft Punk and Ratatat together and amplify the usage of the synth you get Yes Giantess, this spunky Boston based band. Yes Giantess's work continues from a long lineage of electronic, synth pop bands in the US. Recently saw these guys perform live at Dartmouth College's Bones Gate Fraternity over the weekend, and it was hands down an awesome performance, described by the band on twitter as

the most insane show at Dartmouth College. This was seriously like some epic-top-of-the-world-hands-in-the-air shit.
